Pubs & Restaurants

Blue Rose Cafe - West Ashley        Denis O'Doherty | Kerry

The Bluerose Cafe was planted in Ireland but blooms here in Charleston. A locally owned and operated restaurant in W. Ashley, serving the community for over ten years. We offer a grand variety of Irish and Local creations, made with the freshest ingredients ( local grown when in season ) along with homemade Breads, irish Scones,Cakes and Pies. Voted Charleston’s best kept secret a few years ago we have become the place where there’s always a friendly staff, that greet you with a smile. Join us for a chilled Harp, Bass or Guinness.

Charleston Crepe Company - Downtown   Jack Byrne | Dublin

The Charleston Farmers Market, Marion Square, on Saturday morning is the spot to find Jack with his crepes, he has a grand selection of sweet & savoury crepes. Crepe cakes are his speciality & he is available for private events.

Madra Rua Irish Bar-North Charleston  Stephen O'Connor | Dublin

Madra Rua is in Park Circle in North Charleston. Cozy pub, really nice food, fish & chips are a winner here. It’s a big soccer pub, the original soccer pub in Charleston. Stephen is a big Liverpool fans and their supporters club (run by a Derry man) go here. They have a second pub in Summerville too. Madra organises a huge St Patrick’s Day block party that’s the best in town.

McCann's Irish Pub - Mt Pleasant  Gianni & Ciara Leonardi, Danny McCann | Donegal & Antrim

McCanns is just over a year old but is one of the big gathering spots for the Irish in town. Ciara & Danny are siblings, Gianni & Ciara are married, so it’s a family affair and there’s always one of the family onsite. The food is excellent and it’s always busy for the Irish sporting events. They have monthly trad sessions and music most nights.

Prohibition Charleston - Downtown   James Walsh | Belfast

Prohibition is the spot to go downtown. It’s not an Irish themed place, rather a beautifully decorated 1920s era spot with local food with a menu that changes daily. Jim McCourt (Belfast) wins most of the cocktail contests in town, so look for Jim at the front of the bar. Swing, jazz & salsa classes on most nights and then it turns into a very lively late night place too.

Seanachai Whiskey & Cocktail Club - Johns Island      Gerry Kieran | Louth

Seanachai is a gem, as unique as Gerry himself. There is no tv in the place, so conversation rules. It’s cracking bar that would have you thinking you are at home. Don’t miss the patio in the back with fireplace too. Always good live music on here. Wednesday night is burger & beer of $10. No Guinness served here, but there is a huge whiskey collection.

St. James Gate Irish Pub - Folly Beach            John Teevan

Folly Beach finally has an Irish bar with St James Gate. John brought his experience from owning Irish bars in NY to the Edge of America. They have authentic Irish food, local seafood and a lovely pint of Guinness so you can enjoy all that after a day on the beach. They had plenty of live music and upstairs in the Green Room there is a large space that can be rented for events. John’s a big Man Utd fan, so there’s plenty of sports on here too.

Tasty Brunch - Downtown             Gerry Kieran | Dundalk

Gerry from Seanachai is a busy man and on Saturday mornings at the downtown Farmers Market, he cooks up a tasty brunch with omelettes and my favourite, BBQ shrimp and grits. You can find him next to Jack from Charleston Crepe Company at the market. He is also available for private events.
